What is THREDDS?

THREDDS (Thematic Realtime Environmental Distributed Data Service) server is a connectivity tool between scientific data providers and end users.

Server is based in dynamically generated XML catalogues that provide access links through different protocols to different groups of data. The aim of this tool is to provide free access to all the scientific data generated in MeteoGalicia.

Three nested domains are configured for 36Km, 12Km and 4km resolution.

    •  Model Raw/direct output:  NetCDF WRF model output files with model prognostic variables. Model WRF runs operationally twice a day initialized at 00UTC and 12UTC, the former runs for 96 hours and the later for 84 hours. Three nested domains are configured for 36Km, 12Km and 4km resolution. This files files will be generally used to nest other models.

  •  WRF 1.3Km.
    •  Surface level model variables:  NetCDF files with surface variables from WRF model. Model WRF runs operationally twice a day initialized at 00UTC and 12UTC, the former runs for 72 hours and the later for 84 hours. Three domains are available: d04 for the Artabro region, d05 for Rias Baixas region and d06 for North of Portugal region.

    •  Surface and 3D diagnostic model variables:  Grib files (NCEP standard) with surface and vertical variables. Model WRF runs operationally twice a day initialized at 00UTC and 12UTC, the former runs for 72 hours and the later for 84 hours. Three domains are available: d04 for the Artabro region, d05 for Rias Baixas region and d06 for North of Portugal region.

    •  Model Raw/direct output:  NetCDF WRF model output files with model prognostic variables. Model WRF runs operationally twice a day initialized at 00UTC and 12UTC, the former runs for 72 hours and the later for 84 hours. Three domains are available: d04 for the Artabro region, d05 for Rias Baixas region and d06 for North of Portugal region.

  •  WW3 (Wave Watch III)
    •  Wave parameters calculated from forecast power spectra:  NetCDF files with the most relevant wave parameters. This variables are calculated from the forecast power spectra of WW3 model. Model WW3 runs operationally twice a day initialized at 00UTC and 12UTC, the former runs for 96hours and the later for 84 hours. Three nested domains are run for different resolutions.

  •  SWAN (Simulating Waves Nearshore)
    •  Wave parameters calculated from forecast power spectra:   NetCDF files with wave parameters. This variables are calculated from the forecast power spectra of SWAN model. Model SWAN runs operationally once a day initialized at 12UTC and is forced by Meteogalicia operational WW3 model. Forecasting lead time is 84 hours to provide 3 days forecast and two domains are used to forecast Artabro and Rias Baixas geographical regions

  •  ROMS
    •  Model raw output:  NETCDF files, original output from ROMS model. ROMS runs operationally once a day at 00UTC, is forced by MERCATOR and Meteogalicia´s WRF and SWAT model. It runs to provide 4 days forecast on a single domain of 2Km resolution that covers the North-West of the Iberian Peninsula.

    •  Model output interpolated to fixed depth layers:  NetCDF files with ocean variables at fixed depths. This variables are derived from the raw output from ROMS model. This model runs operationally once a day initialized at 00UTC and is forced by MERCATOR and Meteogalicia's WRF and SWAT model outputs. It runs for 96h hours to provide 4 days forecast on a single domain of 2Km resolution that covers the North-West of the Iberian Peninsula.

  •  MOHID
    •  Model raw output:  HDF5 files, original output from MOHID model. MOHID runs operationally once a day at 09:30UTC, is forced by MetoGalicia's ROMS, WRF and SWAT models. It runs to provide 2 days forecast for several high resolution domains.

    •  Ocean variables at different model depths:  NetCDF files with the most relevant ocean variables interpolated at fixed depths. MOHID runs operationally once a day and is forced by MetoGalicia's ROMS, WRF and SWAT modelos. It runs to provide 2 days forecast for several high resolution domains.

  •  SWAT
    •  Predicted river flows and temperatures:  Netcdf files with predicted river flows calculated with the Soil Water Assessment Tool (SWAT). Model SWAT runs operationally once a day and is forced by Meteogalicia operational WRF model. They provide average daily flow and temperature for different rivers from Galicia. This flows are calculated to force the MOHID high resolution domains and that is the reason why most of the rivers belong to the Atlantic Area.

  •  CHIMERE
    •  Model output from the chemical weather forecasting model CHIMERE in NetCDF format:  Each file contains 72 hour forecasts initialized at 03 UTC of the indicated day. The model is run on two domains: a coarse domain covering the northern Iberian Peninsula and a finer one centred over Galicia. Model output is provided for a wide range of chemical species as well as for the air quality index currently used by the Galician government. At the lateral boundaries of the coarse domain, CHIMERE is fed by C-IFS forecasts from ECMWF / Copernicus.

2. Archived Data

  •  RAIA bathymetry
    •  High resolution bathymetry for the North West of Iberian Peninsula:  NetCDF file with the Bathymetry for the North-West of the Iberia Peninsula. Different data sources were used: GEBCO as background field and different measurements and bathymetries. All data was merged using optimal interpolation

  •  WRF model archive
    •  Surface level model variables and some pressure and variables at specific heights near the surface.:  NetCDF files for WRF model with surface and vertical variables at pressure levels and heights near the surface. Files correspond to 00UTC output for the three nested domains are run for 36Km, 12Km and 4km resolution.
